With such a long-lasting legacy, the family-owned drive-in is proof that good food has been central to Charlotte’s culture for decades—and hopefully it will stay that way for years to come. Led by Chef Robin Anthony, who also holds the title of owner and Certified Sake Adviser, the Ballantyne destination serves up Edomae-style sushi. No matter what you order—be sure to try the black truffle salmon, though—the self-taught chef will ensure you enjoy a top-tier meal, often topped with his signature edible flowers, grown by a local farmer in Charlotte.

“The box was for this series called Champions which was sort of like Marvel’s young Avengers group. Robert Ramos draws that book and he’s hands down on my favorite comic book artist so it was cool but daunting to get offered the chance to do a variant for one his books! That record is the new Generation Rx, Good Charlotte’s seventh full-length overall. Lyrically, it finds the band digging deep, exploring everything from drug use (“Actual Pain”) to violence and its aftereffects (“Prayers”) to child abuse (“Better Demos”) to self-hatred (“Shadowboxer”). On November 5, 2010, Good Charlotte's former label, Sony Music, released a Greatest Hits compilation for Australia, spanning 16 singles from the band's four studio albums released on that label.

Tacos El Nevado—which has two locations in Charlotte—can partially attribute its glowing reviews to its $3 tacos, nachos, and homemade tortillas. In a world where tacos can be overly complex, Tacos El Nevado sticks to the basics, resulting in a hard-to-beat formula. Plus, you really can’t go wrong with a side of guacamole or choriqueso with fried corn tortilla chips. He was an assistant on Ty Lue's staff for the 2015-'16 championship and followed the future Hall of Famer to Los Angeles after his final season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Handy is unproven as a head coach, which will feel risky to Los Angeles given Ham was the same, but has been on the sidelines for nearly 15 years now. Should the Lakers want to bet on a relatively unproven commodity while keeping LeBron happy in the purple and gold, Handy is their man.

Authentic Ethiopian fare is present in Midwood thanks to the team behind Abugida Ethiopian Cafe & Restaurant. Injera, a spongy flatbread, is used in place of utensils, to scoop up lamb and beef tibs (cubed beef sauteed in vegetables and Ethiopian spiced butter), gomen (Ethiopian collard greens), and other specialties. At the end of the meal, guests can continue to soak up the ambiance while sipping freshly brewed coffee—poured tableside. Atkinson interviewed for the Lakers job in 2022 before it was eventually given to Ham.

Butterworth’s drumming style brought a new dynamic to the band’s sound, contributing to their evolving musical direction. Aside from his work with Good Charlotte, Dean has an extensive career as a session drummer, playing with a variety of artists across different genres. I’ve always felt that we’re a band that’s a bit tough to put into any one genre. If you listen back to our early records, we played all kinds of styles. And a record like Good Morning Revival, there were some dance songs on that album, and that came out in 2007, before EDM broke, before pop went rhythmic. And then we also had the collaboration with Avenged Sevenfold on that album, on the song “The River.” It’s like, who would have ever thought to put Avenged and Good Charlotte together?

If you're on the hunt for no-frills, old-school Southern food, head to this Charlotte institution located on Wilkinson Boulevard between the airport and Uptown. Open since 1959, the drive-in was featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives," and offers a variety of hickory-smoked barbecue plates and sandwiches as well as chicken wings, burgers, and sandwiches. Don't sleep on the sides which include crispy onion rings, macaroni and cheese, hand-battered hush puppies, and coleslaw. Much like many other bands, Good Charlotte had quite a hard time finding stability behind the drum kit.

This album was suggested a different sound for the group apart from the group's pop punk roots. Good Charlotte came together in 1996, when five high school friends from Maryland picked up instruments for the first time and joined forces to form a band, while still learning how to play. By 2000, Good Charlotte had landed a deal with Epic records and scored its first hit with Little Things, which swiftly grew into an anthem among high school kids. However, the tune had already been gaining momentum long before the band was signed as a demo version made its way across East Coast local radio stations and began creating a buzz. Good Charlotte later expanded its audience through relentless touring and appearances on MTV.

Start your meal with a charcuterie board, then tuck into a plate of seafood pasta, and round out the night with a housemade cannoli. If that sounds like your ideal dining experience, you’ll want to book a table at Ever Andalo, an Italian restaurant in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood. Owned by Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown of the Tonidandel-Brown restaurant group, Ever Andalo is the Italian cousin of Supperland and Haberdish. You’ll need to head up 16 floors in Ballantyne Village’s Panorama Tower to get to Hestia. The modern rooftop restaurant opened in March 2023 with a full-service bar and a robust menu featuring sushi, sashimi, and a variety of original takes on bar food. Whether you come for the 180-degree views of the city or the omakase dining experience (where the chef takes the reins on your order), you’ll leave the meal feeling thoroughly confident in the trajectory of Charlotte’s growing restaurant scene.

A song that understands you, a song that describes a situation in your life, a song that seems to understand how it is you feel – it may be your favorite song, and Good Charlotte might even be your favorite band. With relatable lyrics that speak honestly of the struggles they’ve been through and maintain a persistent feeling of hope through it all, how could they not be? Even if their music doesn’t relate to your own life experiences, there’s something undeniable about how honest they’ve been since the start, and their energetic live shows are a guaranteed good time. Yet though Good Charlotte have achieved a level of celebrity status that many of their peers haven’t, they’ve maintained a humble, down-to-earth perspective and a level-headed outlook on their success. The first single from the album, "The River", featuring Avenged Sevenfold's lead singer M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates, appeared online on January 4, 2007, and was released as the first single from the album in North America.

Joel Madden, the lead vocalist of Good Charlotte, has been with the band since its inception in 1996. His distinct voice has been a defining feature of the band’s sound across all their albums. Alongside his brother Benji, Joel has been a constant presence in the band, contributing to the writing and creative direction of their music. It’s a lot darker and heavier, it’s much more of a straight-up rock record. A lot of bands maybe get softer when they got older but we thought it’d be fun to go hard.

Charlotte may be hours away from an ocean, but Fin & Fino takes its role as a “social seafood house” seriously. The restaurant receives a daily delivery of its fish and shellfish—all of which were raised or caught sustainably–to make its roster of seafood dishes. Alongside a raw bar menu starring the “Penthouse” (a tower of oysters, shrimp, lobster tails, crab cocktail fingers, seafood salad, and scallop crudo), the team serves up entrees featuring mussels, scallops, a wagyu flat iron steak, and more. Not to mention, there’s an impressive, playful cocktail menu; Call of the Clam, Endless Breadsticks, and Papa Was a Rolling Stone are all options to wash down your delicious meal.

When Chef Bruce Moffett opened this eatery in 2009, the name was a nod to the dearth of good food in the neighborhood. While that's no longer the case, Good Food is still worth a visit for its globally influenced small plates, which draw inspiration from locations as varied as Italy and Korea. Try the steamed buns, made with five-spiced rubbed pork belly, hoisin, and pickled vegetables. It had us at “cheese cloud,” a fluffy pile of fluffy Parmesan or pecorino that customers can add to pasta for $3. Restaurant power couple Jeff Tonidandel and Jamie Brown always pay attention to the details, and their foray into Italy is no different.

One thing that hasn’t turned into a disaster on stage is Martin’s band’s surprising opening slot on pop-megastar Justin Timberlake’s Future Sex/Love Show tour that has only recently made its way back to North America. While many die-hard Good Charlotte fans may have been scratching their heads at such a venture, Martin claims a lot of the planning came naturally, considering that he and his bandmates love to — remember — try new things. The band made multiple U.S. and international TV appearances in support of the album.

I was blown away by how those guys grew up poor and then they celebrated having all these nice things and all this success. Because for me, my number-one goal was that I wanted to buy my mom a house. I wanted to put her in a nice car and a nice home and not have people look at her like she was a poor person, which was something we experienced as kids.

The menu of six or so housemade pastas and sharing-size entrees like branzino is rounded out with small plates (toasted hazelnuts and the whole fried artichoke are standouts) that you can keep all to yourself. As Billy continued to enjoy more success with Good Charlotte, he satisfied his illustration itch by designing tour posters for the band. But what he didn’t realize was, in the process, he accidentally created himself a convincing artist portfolio. Catching up with him ahead of his headline set at this year’s Slam Dunk Festival, Billy reveals how he began slowly taking over the comic book world. Not content with just riffing in one of the biggest rock bands, Martin regularly draws for comic titans like Marvel and Disney, even working on the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cartoon series. If you grew up in the ‘90s, chances are you know the band Good Charlotte.
